After the completion of our Container Study we had a large amount of egg cartons left over. Instead of throwing the egg cartons away, we decided to use them during our Chair Study. As a group, we wanted to see if we could make a chair out of egg cartons that we could add to our library. We realized that the chair needed to be strong enough for people to sit on. The question was posed, and the children thought the cartons needed to be filled. We tried the filling them with the following (sand, water and rocks) before deciding to make the chair using the empty cartons. Once the chair had been constructed, using tape and egg cartons), we invited the parents to “test” it out. The chair chair was added to our library and used for the remainder of the year!
