There are various types of blocks that can be added to the Block area, the most essential among them are the wooden blocks formally referred to as unit blocks.  Unit blocks appeal to young children because they invite open-ended exploration and have predictable features such as size, weight, symmetry, and proportion.  Children progress in various areas of development such ad social emotional, physical, language and cognitive when they construct, create and represent their experiences with blocks.
