Library/Media

This area of the classroom is commonly known as the "hub" of literacy. As a concentrated extension of multicultural/multilingual literacy experiences throughout the room, it can be stocked with materials to support literacy components such as: reading for enjoyment, vocabulary and language, phonological awareness, knowledge of print, letters and words, comprehension, books of varied genres and other informational texts. Children may choose to explore materials in this area alone or with a couple of friends.  It typically reserved for quiet exploration of materials.

Please note - Recordings of stories read aloud to children and modeled for teachers can be found in the Storybook Garden from the main menu at the top of the page.

One of the greatest resources teachers have is each other. Collaboration and sharing has proven to contribute to our success, development and growth.  Such growth can be stunted by isolation and holding onto inhibitors.  Growth depends on having the professional courage to believe and invest in yourself enough to breakthrough a comfort zone while learning newer and better ways of benefiting children as they learn and grow.  Until this happens, the students we care for and teach can only grow as far as we have grown ourselves.  We owe it to ourselves and our students to never stop growing.
