Children are innately curious and want to know how things work and why things happen. They naturally think like scientists as they strive to make sense of the world around them. Teachers can encourage their scientific thinking and explorations by integrating investigations guided by children's interests. They seek to understand the big world around them by exploring through their senses, hearing, touching, smelling, seeing and tasting. It is vital for the teachers to plan hands-on experiences, observe their play, and ask open-ended questions throughout the investigation. It's the process of science learning that really counts with young children. A quality study MUST include the following process skills: Observing, Classifying, Communicating, Measuring, Predicting, and Inferring.
