Music/Movement

Although it generally occurs during large group meeting, music and movement activities can occur where other types of play will not be disrupted during free choice time.  Outdoor play areas make for a very interesting music environment as well. Music  and movement activities can naturally support concepts and skills within all learning objectives across all developmental domains.

The music and movement space should contain musical instruments, materials to enjoy prerecorded music, and a variety of props where children can make, listen, and/or dance to music either with a group or alone, and diverse materials that support as well as celebrate a child's multi-cultural and/or multi-lingual background.

One of the greatest resources teachers have is each other. Collaboration and sharing has proven to contribute to our success, development and growth.  Such growth can be stunted by isolation and holding onto inhibitors.  Growth depends on having the professional courage to believe and invest in yourself enough to breakthrough a comfort zone while learning newer and better ways of benefiting children as they learn and grow.  Until this happens, the students we care for and teach can only grow as far as we have grown ourselves.  We owe it to ourselves and our students to never stop growing.
