Small Group

Small groups provide an up close, individualized view as to what specific skills children need support and can be used as opportunities to provide it.  They designed to meet particular instructional goals and to address multiple objectives with children at different levels based on support needs..  They enable teachers to introduce a new concept, teach a specific skill, ask questions, and document learning.

They should be intentionally planned based on curricular objectives that are intended to address each child's particular interest or need in a meaningful and engaging manner.  Length of time and make-up of small groups may vary each day, but ideally are no longer than 10-15 minutes and 3-4 children at

varying skill levels.

One of the greatest resources teachers have is each other. Collaboration and sharing has proven to contribute to our success, development and growth.  Such growth can be stunted by isolation and holding onto inhibitors.  Growth depends on having the professional courage to believe and invest in yourself enough to breakthrough a comfort zone while learning newer and better ways of benefiting children as they learn and grow.  Until this happens, the students we care for and teach can only grow as far as we have grown ourselves.  We owe it to ourselves and our students to never stop growing.
